New Year Letter from the President
Dear Students,
My name is Jun Zhou and I serve as the President of UCSD-CSSA for the year 2009-2010. I am writing to you guys at the beginning of the new year, which I think is a good time to summarize the past and look forward to the future. First of all, please accept my best wishes for a happy new year, and hope the new year will bring the best of healthy and good luck to you and your family.
In the past 2009, CSSA has been working on helping new students integrate to the life in US and building up a great Chinese Community on UCSD campus. Thanks for the support from my dear co-works in CSSA committee, we did great jobs and received a lot of acknowledgment from different people and organizations. In host family program, our New Comer Coordinator Siming Wang, spent most of his spare time on processing applications, contacting host families and making schedules. Because of his hard work, more than 80% of new comers were helped to settle down by local Chinese families or senior students from UCSD. Moreover, a lot of new comers still keep good connections with their host families. In Mid-Autumn night party, we hosted a wonderful ballroom dance party for our members and more than 300 people from UCSD, SDSU and some local Chinese people joined in this amazing party. In addition to these two big events, we have also organized some small activities like Summer Picnic with CAST-SD, Immigration Seminars and etc, which all aimed at enriching our study life in UCSD.
In this coming February, CSSA will host the Chinese Spring Festival Gala at Price Center West Ballroom on UCSD campus and we expect to make this year’s event to be bigger and more fun than any previous year. Therefore, if anybody like to be involved in this big event or become closer to our community, come and join in us. You will enjoy this wonderful festival gala show as well as know a lot of awesome friends.
Best,
Jun Zhou

Welcome to San Diego! Welcome to UCSD!

Dear students, due to the high demand for host family, we might not be able to respond to your request if you submit the application in the last minute. We suggest that you schedule your trip as early as possible, and we now only accept applications at least three weeks ahead of your departure. In that way your host family will be able to contact you in advance and prepare for the accommodation. Thank you for your understanding.
Recently we have received mountains of applications for host families. This year the housing situation is particularly tough and we wish every student will find their living places. Please also understand our limits that we only have a few tens of candidate host families. So plan ahead and send us the applications as early as possible.
We will post the new FAQ for the year 2008 soon.
Greetings from the President
Dear Friends,
My name is Yangbin Gao and I serve as the President of UCSD-CSSA for the year of 2010-2011. I would like first to thank you all for your support and help in the past, and also in advance for this promising academic year.
Jun Zhou, our dear previous president, has done a wonderful job during his term. With the help of you guys and the hard-working down-to-earth CSSA staff, we have been lucky to witness the growth of our community and the joys and pains we have shared in the past year. We have expanded our host family program, held the Mid-autumn Dance, and celebrated the Chinese New Year at the Gala…
People carpool here at CSSA. People find their Roommates here at CSSA. People sell their old furniture here at CSSA. But CSSA is more than that: We all know what the most important part is - people make friends here at CSSA! You know your Mr./Ms. Right is out there somewhere in our CSSA community, right?
Thanks to the help from Bo Chen and Jianjian Gao, we started our host family program two years ago. For this coming academic year, we are going to continue our host family program which would be our first and also the most important thing, and we are now seeking sincerely for your help. Your help could be as simple as answer a few questions from new students (either from your undergraduate university or coming to your current department), or you could also get more involved by pick up a new student, give him/her a non-international-center-type orientation and tell him/her the San Diego and UCSD in your eyes. (We are sending another message regarding this later.)
Besides the host family program, we will keep trying our best to make CSSA a better platform for our fellow students to come together, to get to know and help each other, and to have fun. But all of those would not be possible without help and involvement of you guys. If you could like to help CSSA in any aspect and are interested in joining the CSSA committee or just want to help around, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Together, we make UCSD-CSSA rock.
